Remote Desktop

Use the Test Viewer button located on your user page to test your viewer's settings and proper connectivity to the Internet to remotely support computers.

 

 Currently configured IP Address    

 

Enter the public IP address of your router/firewall into this field to provide support over the Internet. Your current public IP address is shown in the upper right hand corner of this page.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you're supporting PCs on your LAN or private WAN, enter your computers private LAN IP address (run ipconfig on XP or 2K to get your system's LAN IP).

 

 Current configured Port Number    

Configure TCP port forwarding for the port number shown in this field on your Internet router to the computer you'll be providing support from. You only have setup port forwarding once and only on your side - never the remote side. Remember to use the Test Viewer button in Step 4 on this page to TEST YOUR VIEWER before trying to support a remote user.   

Remote Support

The desktop viewer will start and run minimized on your task bar.

Once the viewer is started, use the Test Viewer button in the next step (Step 4) to test your port-forwarding setup.

 

 

 

If a Java security window opens, click 'Run', 'Yes', or 'OK' to continue.


 

The viewer software starts minimized with only a tray icon.           

There are no additional steps required. Your ready to go once

you've tested your setup and passed. Use Test Viewer button

in the next step to check your router/firewall port forwarding

setup.

 

TEST YOUR VIEWER with the Test Viewer button in the next step before trying to support a remote user.

 

Once you've setup port forwarding on your router, firewall or gateway, test the configuration by clicking on the test viewer button below. The test will use the IP address and port number that you've configured in Steps 1 and 2.

 

 

Your viewer MUST be running and port forwarding on your local

internet router/gateway MUST be setup properly for the test to be successful.

IMPORTANT NOTE: DO NOT USE RDP FOR TESTING.

 

The tester can only test successfully over the Internet, not on your LAN:

The tester was designed to test if port forwarding is setup properly for Internet support by sending a TCP packet to your public IP address that you applied in Step 1. The tester was not designed for testing LAN to LAN connectivity - since our web server is on the Internet and not on your LAN, it is impossible to reach your computer if you enter a private IP address in the IP address section above. If your setting up to remotely support computers on your LAN,  apply your computer's private LAN IP address in the IP address filed in step 1 above.

Before trying to provide remote assistance software to your end-users make certain you have followed the steps for performing the test of your remote desktop viewer. Achieving  good result will make the system perform better.
